First-aid measures
Description of first aid measures
If on skin
Immediately remove splashed or contaminated clothing. Shower and rinse your entire body with
abundant water. Wash contaminated parts of the body with soap and water.
Contact a doctor.
If contact with eyes
Immediately rinse abundantly with water for around fifteen minutes.
Consult an ophthalmologist immediately.
If inhaled
If possible, hold your breath and leave the contaminated area. Use the required personal
protection equipment (see section 8) to remove any injured or suffering person from the area.
Lie the victim down and keep the person warm.
Contact a doctor immediately.
If swallowed
Immediately transfer the person to the hospital
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
METHYL BAPO has severe toxic effects for all types of exposure.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
In every case, evacuate the person to a hospital.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Appropriate means of extinguishing fires
Carbon dioxide, chemical powder, physical foam.
Inappropriate means of extinguishing fires
None known.
Special hazards arising from the subtance or mixture
Hazardous decomposition products
METHYL BAPO can decompose in the presence of heat, producing toxic and irritating vapours
(nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus oxides).
Water used to extinguish fires must be collected to avoid contaminating the environment.
Advice for firefighters
Wear standalone isolating respiratory devices and appropriate protective clothing.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Protection equipment
Wear a full protection mask against organic vapours (type A cartridge).
Wear appropriate gloves (latex gloves are recommended) and acid-proof clothing (apron and boots if METHYL BAPO is in viscous liquid form).
Protection and prevention measures
Mark out the contaminated area. Evacuate people
Ensure adequate ventilation if possible.
Environmental precautions
Avoid contaminating the environment directly via surface water or via the soil or indirectly via the water evacuation system.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
If METHYL BAPO is in viscous liquid form, cover with absorbent material (soil, sand etc…) to limit spreading.
Collect waste using a mechanical device, in an appropriate container, and clearly label for destruction according to applicable regulations.
Destroy the contaminated product by incineration using an installation complying with regulations.
Reference to other sections
Exposure control parameters as described in section 8 are applicable in case of accidental dispersion.
Waste from cleaning must be treated in accordance with the provisions of section 13.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling
Protective and prevention measures
• Safety
Avoid extended heating of METHYL BAPO above 80°C.
• Health
If vapours are likely to be produced, collect these vapours as near to the location of production as possible. If ventilation is inadequate, wear suitable respiratory protection devices.
Avoid all contact with the eyes, skin and clothing (see section 8 on personal protection equipment).
• Environment
Avoid contaminating the environment directly via surface water or via the soil or indirectly via the water evacuation system.
General advice on hygiene in the workplace
Do not eat, drink or smoke when working.
Wash your hands before breaks and before leaving work.
Shower after work.
Keep your personal protection devices and work clothing clean.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Technical measures and storage conditions
Protect from humidity (for quality control reasons).
Store away from heat in a cool and ventilated room.
Avoid any source of ignition.
Store in the original packaging, closed appropriately.
Recommended storage temperature (for quality control): between 0°C to 8°C.
Packaging materials
Polyethylen, polypropylen
Non adaptive packaging materials
Avoid any other type of packaging
Specific end use(s)
Identified uses : METHYL BAPO is used for industrial purposes as a raw material for
pyrotechnic compounds; all other use is prohibited

Exposure controls / personal protection
Exposure controls
Appropriate engineering controls
METHYL BAPO must be handled using a contained system if possible.
If vapours are produced, a local exhaust system must collect these vapours as near to the
location of production as possible.
Measures of personal protection, such as personal protective equipment
• Eye protection : safety goggles.
• Skin protection : Wear appropriate gloves (latex gloves are recommended) and acid-proof
clothing (apron and boots if METHYL BAPO is in viscous liquid form)..
• Respiratory protection : if ventilation is inadequate, wear a full protection mask against
organic vapours (type A cartridge).
If the product is projected, an eye wash and safety shower must be nearby.
Reducing exposure to protect the environment
Avoid contaminating the environment directly via surface water or via the soil or indirectly via the
water evacuation system.
Waste must be treated in accordance with the provisions of section 13.
Stability and reactivity
Reactivity
METHYL BAPO is likely to react violently with strong oxidisers and acids
Chemical stability
METHYL BAPO is stable in normal temperature and pressure conditions, as predictable for
handling and storage, in accordance with section 7.
Possibility of hazardous reactions
METHYL BAPO can start to decompose from 80°C in case of prolonged heating
Conditions to avoid
Avoid any source of heat likely to lead to the decomposition of the METHYL BAPO.
METHYL BAPO storage and handling temperatures must be controlled (see section 7).
Incompatible materials
Strong oxidisers. Acids .
Hazardous decomposition products
In case of decomposition, toxic and irritating vapours can be produced (nitrogen oxides,
carbon oxides, and phosphorus oxides).
Disposal considerations
Waste treatment methods
Waste / unused product
Accordance with applicable regulations
Store waste in sealed containers.
Label these containers in compliance with the applicable international and community standards
and eliminate as dangerous waste in the conditions described in regulations (treatment by specialist centres).
Avoid mixing with other categories of dangerous waste or with other waste, substances or raw material.
Contaminated packaging
Contaminated packaging must be eliminated in accordance with applicable regulations.
