Endpoint:
boiling point
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid which decomposes before boiling
Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
from 2017-03-22 to 2017-04-06
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling Point)
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Key result

Remarks on result:
other: no boiling point determined due to composition

Pre-test boiling point following Siwoloboff

The following observations were documented:

Table 1: Pre-test for boiling point

Observations Temperature
Started to melt to a slightly brownish mass 180 °C
Completely melted, colour got darker 192 °C
Clear slightly brow liquid 204 °C
Bubbles came now and then 217 °C
More bubbles 226 °C
Bubble chain, burner turned down, colour was very dark 231 °C
The chain broke, test item was red-brown liquid 210 °C

After cooling the test item was red-brown solid, decomposition was considered.

As decomposition was observed, the sponsor was contacted and the DSC was performed at temperatures from 15 – 220 °C.

Conclusions:
Since the test item decomposed after melting process no boiling point could be determined (please refer to point 4.2 "Melting point / freezing point").
Executive summary:

A main study was conducted according to OECD TG 103 and Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.2 to determine the boiling point of the test item. The boiling point should be determined via DSC. Since the test item decomposed after melting process, no boiling point could be determined. No observations were made which might cause doubts on the validity of the study outcome. Therefore, the result of the study is considered valid.

Description of key information

Since the test item decomposed after melting process (please refer to point 4.2 "Melting point / freezing point"), no boiling point could be determined.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A preliminary study was conducted according to OECD TG 103 and Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.2 to determine the boiling point of the test item. Since in the preliminary study the test item decomposed after melting process, no boiling point was determined in the main study performed by DSC. No observations were made which might cause doubts on the validity of the study outcome. Therefore, the result of the study was considered valid (reference 4.2 -1).
