Results:

Pre-test:

The flash point of the test item was estimated to be less than 25°C during the pre-test as a flash was observed immediately after the first dipping of the ignitor into the test cup.

Control of the performance of the method:

- A flash point of 38.0°C was registered for the reference substance butanol (Batch N° JA040388)

- A flash point of 75.0°C was registered for the Certified Reference Material (Batch N° 1162111a)

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
Category 2 (highly flammable liquids) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The flash point of the test item was determined to be < = 25°C at 101.3 kPa.
Executive summary:

A study was performed to determine the flash point of the test item REACTION MASS OF TOLUENE AND 2-VINYL-1,3-DIOXOLANE.

The method followed was designed to be compliant with the Method A.9 of Commission Regulation No. 440/2008, ''Flash Point''

The flash point of the test item is determined with a closed cup tester, by an equilibrium method called ''Small Scale'' (commonly known as Setaflash).

The substance is placed into a test cup and heated using a temperature gradient program. Ignition trials are carried out in order to ascertain whether or not the sample flashes at the temperature tested.

A pre-test was conducted and a flash was observed at 25°C during the first dipping of the ignitor into the test cup.

As the apparatus cannot perform measurements at lower temperatures than the ambient temperature, the flash point is considered to be less than 25°C.

The flash point of the reference substances Butanol-1 and CRM respects the checking cards limits.

The flash point of the test item was determined to be < 25°C at 101.3 kPa.
