The average melting temperature of the test item is determinated to be 89.5 ± 2.2 °C at atmospheric pressure.
Reference
The preliminary study and measurements were performed under atmospheric pressure of 996.1 hPa. The study was carried out in order to determine the melting temperature range forZinc Gluconate (50.0 – 400.0°C).
Preliminary test
At 87.5°C when heated at 10.0 ˚Cper minute narrowing of the substance column and change in color from white to grey was observed (the beginning of decomposition).
Final test
The three series of melting point measurements were performed in the temperature range 78.0 - 400.0 °C. The heating rate was 0.5°C/min.
Samples number 2 and 3 started to change the shape (narrowing) and tint from white to grey at 88.2 °C. Sample number 1 started to change the tint (white to grey) at 92.0 °C.
The average value of initial decomposition temperature for the three samples of Zinc Gluconate is 89.5 ± 2.2 °C.
Accuracy :
The measuring accuracy depends on the BÜCHI Melting Point M-565 apparatus accuracy (the accuracy of the apparatus is defined as: up to 250.0°C is equal to 0.3 °C, 250.0 - 400.0 °C is equal to 0.3°C - 0.5°C). In this study, the accuracy of the apparatus was equal to 0.3°C.
Description of key information
The determination of melting point of test item is carried out in accordance with the OECD 102 guideline.
The average melting temperature of the test item is determinated to be 89.5 ± 2.2 °C at atmospheric pressure.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
- 89.5 °C
