Justification for type of information:
According to Regulation (EC) No.1907/2006, Annex VIII, Section 9.2.2.1, Column 2, hydrolysis testing as a function of pH does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable. The substance has been shown to be readily biodegradable, based on read-across from 3-Methylpyridine (another substance in the chemical category). The determination of the ready biodegradability of the substance is supported by the results of the non-guideline study by Lee et al. (2005), which showed complete degradation of 0.5mM (i.e., 46.6 mg/L) 4-methylpyridine in activated sludge, by a filamentous bacterium isolated from the culture identified as Pseudonocardia sp. In addition, the results of the non-guideline study by Stoban et al. (2008) in actinomyces bacteria suggest that 4-methylpyridine is likely to be readily biodegradable.
