- The test material has been determined to be not highly flammable as it did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes.
- Executive summary:
The flammability of the test substance was determined by measuring the burning rate of test material prepared as a pile of set dimensions. Testing was conducted using Method A10 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC).The test material has been determined to be not highly flammable as it did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes

Preliminary screening test
The pile ignited and burned with a yellow flame leaving black charred remains. The pile propagated combustion over the 200mm in 18 minutes and 37 seconds.
The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the main test.

Description of key information
Non-flammable, EU Method A.10, Tremain (2008)
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
The flammability of the test material was determined in the key study (Tremain, 2008) by measuring the burning rate of test material prepared as a pile of set dimensions. Testing was conducted using Method A.10 of Commission Directive 92/69/EEC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC).The test material has been determined to be not highly flammable as it did not propagate combustion over the 200 mm of the preliminary screening test in under 4 minutes. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the principles for assessing data quality set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).
Furthermore, in accordance with point 1 of Annex XI of Regulation EC No. 1907/2006 (REACH), it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties and testing for substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary as experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicate that it does not possess pyrophoric properties or emit flammable gases in contact with water.
Justification for classification or non-classification
In accordance with Regulation EC 1272/2008, Annex I, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification for flammable solids, pyrophoric properties and for substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases.
