Description of key information
The water solubility of 1,1 -di(tert-amylperoxy)cyclohexane has been determined to be 0.088 mg/L (expressed as active ingredient).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Water solubility:
- 0.088 mg/L
- at the temperature of:
- 20.2 °C
Additional information
The water solubility of 1,1 -di(tert-amylperoxy)cyclohexane in isododecane was assessed using a protocol adapted from the flask method (OECD TG 105) with slow stirring conditions described in the OECD TG 123 and according to GLP requirements (Chastenet, 2017).
The stirring speed has been kept to a minimum and during an extended period reducing the influence of the solvent and giving time for the water solubility of the peroxide to be reached. Moreover, test solutions were prepared at a high loading rate of 9 g/L. Based on OECD test guideline 105 specification, the saturation equilibrium was considered to be reached from 29h. Indeed, the concentrations measured in all vessels did not differ by more than 15% from 29h to the end of the 70h period. The water solubility of the test item was therefore calculated as the mean of the concentrations determined during this period. The value obtained for the test item was 0.145 mg/L, corresponding to 0.088 mg/L for the active ingredient.
The test was run at 20.2°C. All pH values were 4.7.
In addition, the water solubility of an analogous substance, 1,1 -bis(tert-butylperoxy)cyclohexane has been determined according to OECD TG 105. The value obtained was < 1 mg/L (corresponding to the limit of quantification) at 20°C
