Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
boiling point
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because chemical change occurred during the melting point study
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the boiling point study does not need to be conducted for substances decomposing below the boiling temperature. The existing data is sufficient to indicate a reaction or decomposition well below the boiling temperature.

Description of key information

Boiling point: not relevant because the sample decomposed before a liquid state was achieved
Decomposition temperature: >120°C

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A boiling point value of ferrous gluconate could not be determined due to decomposition of the substance, as noted by a change in color. The decomposition was determined in a reliable study as shown during detection of melting point (Baldwin, 2014, Melting Point and Boiling Point of Iron Gluconate) which was conducted according to the appropriate standard test methods EU Method A.2 (Boiling point) and OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point/melting range).

In accordance with column 2 of REACH annex VII, the boiling point study does not need to be conducted if decomposition of the test substance is observed at temperatures lower than the boiling point.
