Description of key information

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was performed in Daphnia magna for 48 hrs in static condition. EC50 value and No-observable-effect-level (NOEL) for Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates based on intoxication effect for 48hrs was determined to be 0.72mg/l and 0.3 mg/l for Daphnia magna species in fresh water and static condition.

Based on the value the Dimethyloctadecyl [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] ammonium chloride (27668-52-6) was considered to be hazardous to aquatic invertebrates and can be classified in aquatic chronic 1 and acute 1 category.

48 hrs aquatic toxicity studies(EPI suite, ECOSAR version 1.1, 2016) were conducted to assess toxic effects of theDimethyloctadecyl [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] ammonium chloride (27668-52-6))and the results were predicted. The study was based on the effects of the test compound on the Daphnia magna in a static fresh water system. The predicted data suggests the lethal concentration (LC50) forDimethyloctadecyl [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] ammonium chloride (27668-52-6))wasestimated to be 0.760 mg/l.As theDimethyloctadecyl [3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl] ammonium chloride (27668-52-6))wasconsidered being hazardous to aquatic invertebrates can be considered to be classified in aquatic chronic 1 and acute 1category as per the CLP regulations.

 

 

A study on read across Benzododecinium chloride (139-07-1) for short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was performed in Daphnia magna (j-check, NITE (2001), Toxicity data survey work in 2001 fiscal year, Acute Immobilization Test of Benzyl (dodecyl)dimethylammonium chloride to Daphnia magna) for 48 hrs according to the OECD guideline 202. Nominal concentrations of 0, 0.010, 0.018, 0.032, 0.056, 0.10 mg/L were used. Test conditions as semi static test type for 48 hrs were used. 100ml of test solution with 5 daphnids per vessels and 4 replicates were used. After the experiment, the EC 50 value for Benzododecinium chloride (139-07-1) of short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was determined to be 0.032 mg/l on the basis of mobility.

 

Another study on read across chemical Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (57-09-0), which has 60-70% structural similarity, for a short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates test (J-check, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Ministry of the Environment)2005) was performed in Daphnia magna for 48 hrs according to the OECD guideline 202. Nominal concentrations of control, 0.0100, 0.0180, 0.0320, 0.0560, 0.100 mg/L, geometric ratio: 1.8 mg/L were used. Test conditions as semi static test type for 48 hrs were used for test. 100ml of test solution with 5 daphnids per vessels and 4 replicates were used. After the experiment, the EC 50 value for Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (57-09-0) of short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was determined to be 0.0157 mg/l on the basis of mobility.

Based on the value of Dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ammonium chloride (27668-52-6) and read across chemicals Benzododecinium chloride (139-07-1) which has 50-60% structural similarity and Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (57-09-0) which has 60-70% structural similarity, it was concluded that Dimethyloctadecyl[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ammonium chloride (27668-52-6) was considered to be hazardous to aquatic invertebrates and can be classified in aquatic chronic 1 and acute 1 category.
