Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance/physical state/colour:
From experiment study result the test substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile found to be organic clear liquid.Supporting study also indicate that the test substance is liquid .
Melting point/freezing point:
The Freezing point determination of test item2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile(CAS No.10461-98-0) was done using crushed ice and salt. The determination was done on the basis of cooling curve (time vs temperature) obtained when the test item was placed in the cooling bath. The mean freezing point was found to be -15.7°C at 969.2 hPa.
Boiling point:
The boiling point determination of 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile (CAS No. 10461-98-0) was done following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The test was conducted and boiling point was found to be greater than 250 °C at 968.3 hPa.
Density:
The density of test item2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile(CAS No. 10461-98-0 ) was determined following OECD guideline 109 and according to the Indian standard method for determination of density of liquids [IS 4730:1994 (Reaffirmed 2010).The mean density of the test item was found to be1.031 g/cm3at 20oC and 969.3 hPa.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry):
In accordance with the adaptation condition mentioned in column 2 of the Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form. 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile is a liquid chemical and hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Vapour pressure:
Vapour pressure of test substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile was found to be 0.043 Pa at 20 °C and 0.82 Pa at 50 °C by Dynamic method.
Partition coefficient:
Partition coefficient (log Pow) of test substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile was found to be 4 at 30 °C using HPLC method and this study conduct by 92/69/EEC, A8 (HPLC method).
This partition coefficient value indicate that the test substance is hydrophobic in nature.
Water solubility:
Water solubility of test substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile was found to be 7.5 mg/L at 20 °C by using Analytical method as HPLC and test is conduct by Flask method.
This solubility value indicate that the test substance is slightly soluble in water.
Surface tension:
Surface tension of test substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile was found to be 72.5 mN/m at 20 °C and Concentration of 6.75 mg/L by
OECD harmonized ring method.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of Test item2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile(CAS No. 10461-98-0)was done. The method is closed cup method using Pensky-Martens Flash Point Apparatus. The mean flashpoint of the test item was found to be 152.3 °Cat969.0 hPa
Auto flammability:
Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature of the test substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile was found to be 385 °C.
Flammability:
Experimental result indicate the test substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile was non flammable.
Explosiveness:
In accordance with Annex VII of the REACH regulation, this end point was not considered for testing since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of the chemical 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile. Thus, the chemical is unlikely to exhibit explosive property.
Oxidising properties:
The substance 2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure. The chemical is an organic substance containing carbon but no halogen atoms and the oxygen atoms present for chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemical is not likely to exhibit oxidising properties in accordance with the waiver criteria mentioned in column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation.
pH:
The pH determination of test item2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile(CAS No. 10461-98-0 ) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The pH of the test solution was determined with the help of digitalpH meter. The mean pH was found to be 5.68 at 28 °C.
Viscosity:
The viscosity determination of Test item2-cyclohexylidene-2-phenylacetonitrile(CAS No. 10461-98-0)was done as per the test guideline OECD 114 using Redwood Viscometer No. 1.Kinematic viscosity (experimental) of Test item at 200C and 400C is99.70 mm2/secand31.53mm2/s, respectively. Dynamic viscosity (calculated) of Test item at 200C and 400C is102.79mPa.Sand32.50mPa.S, respectively.
