Conclusion on classification
Aquatic toxicity
Acute toxicity data of the substance are available for three trophic levels (fish, daphnia and algae) and based on a supersaturated suspension of the test item. As chronic effect value for classification the 72-h ErC10 for the effect of the substance on growth rate of the freshwater green alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata is selected.
The results of acute toxicity test to the freshwater fish Gobiocypris rarus indicate that the substance does not affect fish up to a geometic mean measured concentration of 94.3 µg/L. The 96-h LC50 value was estimated to be > 94.3 µg/L.
The results of acute toxicity test to the freshwater invertebrate Daphnia magna indicate that the substance does not immobilise Daphnia magna up to a arithmetic mean measured concentration of 79 µg/L. The 48-h EC50 value was estimated with > 79 µg/L.
Further, the results of the algal growth inhibition test indicate that the respective 72-h EC10 and 72-h EC50 for the inhibition of growth rate of the freshwater green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata are above the highest nominal loading of 100 mg/L test substance, corresponding to a geometric mean measured concentration of 119 µg/L test substance. Thus, ErC10- and ErC50-values for the inhibition of growth rate after 72-hours were > 119 µg/L, respectively.
Acute (short-term) aquatic hazard:
96-h LC50 > 94.3 µg/L (fish; geometric mean meas. concentration)
48-h EC50 > 79 µg/L (daphnia; arith. mean meas. concentration)
72-h ErC50 > 119 µg/L (algae; geom. mean meas. concentration)
Since acute toxicity is not observed at levels up to the solubility limits, classification as ACUTE/SHORT-TERM AQUATIC HAZARD is not required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), as amended for the eighteenth time in Commission Regulation (EU) 692/2022.
Chronic (long-term) aquatic hazard based on chronic, acute data and environmental fate of the product:
72-h ErC10 > 119 µg/L (algae - chronic data)
48-h EC50 > 79 µg/L (daphnia – acute data)
Not readily biodegradable
log Kow 3.4
The substance is not readily biodegradable and the log Kow is below 4. Further, the EC50 for immobilisation of daphnia as well as the EC10 for growth rate inhibition of algae are above the solubility limits. Thus, classification as CHRONIC/LONG-TERM AQUATIC HAZARD is not required according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), as amended for the eighteenth time in Commission Regulation (EU) 692/2022.
