Appearance
In a study conducted by American College of Toxicology (2007), Basic blue 99 appears as a dark blue powder with odorless property.
In a opinion given by Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety for Basic blue 99 (2011), a study report by COLIPA mentioned that the Basic Brown 16 appears as a black powder with odorless property.
Based on the above available value, appearance of test substance Basic blue 99 was dark blue to black powder with odorless property.
Melting point:
On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Melting point of test substance Basic blue 99 was estimated to be 317.7 °C.
In a study conducted by American College of Toxicology (2007), Melting point of test substance Basic blue 99 was 300-320 deg C with decomposition temperature of > 200 °C.
In a opinion given by Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety for Basic blue 99 (2011), a study report by COLIPA mentioned that the Basic Brown 16 decomposed at > 200 deg C

On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Partition coefficient of test substance Basic blue 99 was estimated to be log Kow = -0.88.
In a opinion given by Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety for Basic blue 99 (2011), a study report by COLIPA mentioned that Partition coefficient of Basic Brown 16 by EU Method A.8 was found to be log Kow = 1.88.
On the basis of above available data, Partition coefficient of Basic blue 99 were log Kow = -0.88.
Water solubility:
On the basis of prediction using Danish QSAR modelling database (2016), Water solubility of test substance 3-[(4-amino-6-bromo-5,8-dihydro-1-hydroxy-8-imino-5-oxo-2-naphtyl)amino]-N,N,N-trimethylanilinium chloride was estimated to be 13740 mg/L. This solubility value indicated that test substance is soluble in water.
In a opinion given by Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety for Basic blue 99 (2012), soluble in water at 60 deg C determined from kow value (Log kow=-0.88). Therefore, Basic blue 99 were found to be water soluble.
On the basis of above available value, Basic blue 99 was soluble in water at 1370 mg/L.
Surface tension
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical 3-[(4-amino-6-bromo-5,8-dihydro-1-hydroxy-8-imino-5-oxo-2-naphtyl)amino]-N,N,N-trimethylanilinium chloride (Common Name: C.I. Basic Blue 99) is used as a hair and cosmetic color. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
In a ChemNet data base (2016), Flash point of Basic blue 99 was found to be 160.7°C
Auto flammability
The chemical 3-[(4-amino-6-bromo-5,8-dihydro-1-hydroxy-8-imino-5-oxo-2-naphtyl)amino]-N,N,N-trimethylanilinium chloride (Common Name: C.I. Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Auto flammable" and hence this end point was considered for waiver.

Basic Blue 99), does not have chemical groups associated with explosive properties. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver as the chemical is likely to be "non-explosive".
Oxidising property
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance 3-[(4-amino-6-bromo-5,8-dihydro-1-hydroxy-8-imino-5-oxo-2-naphtyl)amino]-N,N,N-trimethylanilinium chloride (Common Name: C.I. Basic Blue 99) is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure. Thus, the chemcial is likely to be "Non-oxidising".
