Description of key information

In alga (Selenastrum capricornutum), 72-h EC50 and NOEC values for growth rate and yield are determined at 31 mg/L and 8.0 mg/L, respectively. These values will be used in the assessment.

Additional information

No toxicity test with alga is available for cesium tetrafluoroaluminate. The results from the structural analogue cesium fluoro aluminate complex are used instead (for details see Reporting Format as atttached to the respective IUCLID entry and CSR Appendix B.2).

A GLP-compliant OECD 201 guideline study with alga (Selenastrum capricornutum) is available for cesium fluoro aluminate complex. Algae were exposed to nominal concentrations of 4.5, 10, 22, 45 and 100 mg/L under static conditions for 72 hours. The 4.5, 22 and 100 mg/L test concentrations were analytically verified by measuring the Aluminium content. At the end of the 72 -hour period the measured Aluminium concentrations had decreased by more than 20% in all samples. Therefore the biological effect concentrations are based on average exposure concentrations (geometric means). In this study, statistically significant differences on growth rate and yield were found at nominal test concentration of ≥17 mg/L. The 72-h EC50 values for growth rate and yield are determined at 31 mg/L and 18 mg/L, respectively. The 72-h NOEC value is 8.0 mg/L for both endpoints.
