Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Details on study design:
- Test material is applied topically to the stratum corneum surface, at the air interface, so that undiluted and/or end use dilutions can be tested directly. The test is based on the experience that corrosive chemicals are cytotoxic after a short term exposure to the EPISKIN model. Corrosive chemicals are able to penetrate the stratum corneum and are sufficiently cytotoxic to cause cell death in the underlying cell layers. Toxicity is determined by the metabolic conversion of the vital dye MTT to formazan by viable cells in the test material treated cultures relative to the negative control.
