Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
dissociation constant
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is insoluble
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 112 (Dissociation Constants in Water)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)

Prior to the preparation of a study plan, the investigations are aborted.

As shown in GLP final report 09 -16630 -7 / 10 -00403 -7 "Ethyl 2 -cyanoacrylate - Determination of Water solubility", the test item immediately reacts when getting in contact with water (spontaneous polymerization)

The concentration of the residual monomer ethyl 2 -cyanoacrylate after polymerization was shown to be 24µg/L, which is about 1.9 * 10 -7 M.

The determination of dissociation constants requires the preparation of aqueous dilutions with different concentrations of the test item. Due to the high reactivity of the test item and the small amount of residual monomer after polymerization, preparation of aqueous solutions with different concentrations of the test item is not possible.

Thus the investigation is aborted before preparing the study plan.

Description of key information

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is insoluble.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Tests in aqueous media with ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate with the intent to determine effective concentrations or no effect concentrations can not be performed due to technical reasons based on the chemical properties of the monomer. In presence of moisture ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate polmerises within seconds (inherent property of ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate based instant glues). Thus, very low determined monomer concentrations in water represent a non steady state situation from which a defined effective concentration can not be derived.
