Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

In the presence of Fe(III) sulfide is precipitated as Fe2S3, which further reacts to FeS and S8 or FeS2. FeS2 is a naturally occurring substance (Pyrit, Markasit).

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
In the environment H2S forms unsoluble sulfides with heavy metals like Fe, which are ubiquitary. Unsoluble heavy metal sulfides are ubiquitary distributed, naturally occurring substances. Therefore, relevant sulfide concentrations due to anthropogenic releases cannot exist in environmental compartments.
