Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No acute fish toxicity test with L-menthan-3 -one is available. Therefore read-across to the reaction mass of isomenthone and trans-menthone, EC 905 -013 -3 (76% trans-menthone) was done.

No mortality was observed in the limit test over the study period of 96 hours. The LC0 value thus was equal to or greater than 28 mg/L and the LC50 value was greater than 28 mg/L (threshold approach). A reliable acute toxicity study with aquatic invertebrates is available for L-menthan-3-one. The 48-hour EC50 value in a valid acute study with daphnids was 30.6 mg/L. The ErC50 value after 72 hours in a valid algal toxicity study with the L-menthan-3-one was 58 mg/L and the ErC10 value was 31 mg/L. The freshwater invertebrate (Daphnia magna) therefore represents the most sensitive species with regard to acute exposure to the substance. The hazard assessment is based on the effect levels of the daphnia study and the PNECs aqua will be derived from the EC50 value of 30.6 mg/L.

A valid respiration inhibition test is not available. The toxicity control in the valid study on ready biodegradability of Menthone-L/Isomenthone-D showed no inhibition of microorganisms at a concentration of 20 mg/L, which can be seen as the NOEC for microbial inhibition.
