Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Skin contact:
Clean well with water and soap and wash with plenty of water at least for 15 minutes. If irritation persists seek medical advice.
Eye contact:
Wash with plenty of water at least for 15 minutes. If irritation persists seek medical advice.
Ingestion:
If swallowed seek medical attention immediately and show this sheet or the label.
Medical advice: gastric lavage. Administer BAL, EDTA, or PENICILAMINE. Treat symptomatically.
Inhalation:
Remove patient from exposure and bring into fresh air immediately. Seek medical advice.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed:
May cause pain in mouth and pharynx, nausea, watery and bloody diarrhoea and/or decrease of blood pressure.
Denaturation of protein with damage at mucosa level, hepatic and renal damage and damage of the central nervous system, hemolysis. Vomiting with emission of green coloured material, gastric burning, haematic diarrhoea, abdominal pain, hemolitic jaundice, hepatic and renal insufficiency, convulsion, collapse. Fever from metal inhalation. Possible eyes and skin irritation.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:
Therapy: Gastric lavage with milk-albumin solution. If the copper level in blood is high use chelants, penicillamine if the oral route is practicable otherwise CaEDTA intravenously and BAL intramuscularly; for the remainder apply symptomatic therapy.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media:
Any dry media, carbon dioxide (CO2). If acid has been used, separately collect contaminated water in order to avoid discharge into drains or the aquatic environment.
Unsuitable extinguishing media:
None but avoid using plenty of water.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:
Toxic gases/fumes of sulphur oxides (SOx) could be produced.
Advice for firefighters:
Special fire-fighting procedures: Prevent extinguishing media from reaching water bodies and sewage.
Protection of fire-fighters: fire-fighters should wear proper protective equipment and self-contained (positive pressure if available) breathing apparatus with full face piece.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:
For non-emergency personnel:
Protect adequately all body parts. The air passages must be protected (suitable filter mask FFP2/P2). Remove unauthorised people, children and animals. Prevent the product reaching water bodies or sewage. If this should happen inform the local competent authority immediately.
For emergency personnel:
Wear plastic disposable clothes, appropriate FFP2/P2 filter mask, rubber gloves and protective eye goggles or total face protection.
Environmental precautions:
Use sand or soil to contain the loss of product.
Prevent the product from entering water courses or sewers; if this should happen inform the local competent authority immediately.
Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:
Cover drains near the polluted area. Vacuum the product if possible, otherwise cover the product with sand or soil and clean up carefully all the product. Put it into another clean and dry container, close and remove it from the area. Do not clean contaminated area with water. If necessary arrange
disposal in an authorised area. Contact local Waste Disposal Authority.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling:
Avoid dust formation. Do not breathe dust. Handle in a well-ventilated area or wear adequate respiratory protection (FFP2/P2 filter mask). Avoid contact with skin and eyes by wearing working clothes, gloves and protective glasses. Do not eat, smoke or drink during use. After use keep the
packaging well closed.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Keep in sealed containers away from humidity and sunlight. Store the product in a well-ventilated warehouse away from flammable products. Keep out of the reach of children, animal and unauthorised people. Keep away from food, drink and feeding stuff.
Incompatibility:
None known. Cu++ in the presence of water/humidity is corrosive to iron.
Packaging material:
Multilayer paper bags or multicomponent plasic bags (both with polypropylene inside).

Exposure controls / personal protection
Exposure controls:
Appropriate engineering controls:
Industrial use of the product should be conducted under LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation).
Personal Protection:
Respiratory protection:
Use a suitable dust mask (FFP2/P2 filter mask). Do not breathe dust.
Hand protection:
Protect hands using suitable gloves (plastic, rubber or resistant to chemical product). Wash hands after use.
Eye protection:
Avoid contact with eyes. Use protective glasses or total face protection.
Skin protection:
Use appropriate clothes and avoid prolonged contact with skin. Thoroughly wash deeply and working clothes daily. After use wash the body with water and soap.
Environment exposure control:
Avoid uncontrolled release of the product to the environment.
