Description of key information

The flammability of sorbic acid was investigated according to the provisions of the EU Method A.10.
Based on its structural formula, sorbic acid does not evolve flammable gases when being in contact with water or humid air.
From the structural formula and the composition of the substance it can be safely concluded that the substance is stable in air at room temperature and is not pyrophoric.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The test item could not be ignited with a flame. The test item melted. A main test was therefore not necessary. The test item is not highly flammable solid in the sense of the method A10.

From the structural formula and the composition of the substance it can be safely concluded that the substance does not evolve any flammable gases in contact with water or humid air.

From the structural formula and the composition of the substance it can be safely concluded that the substance is stable in air at room temperature and is not pyrophoric.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item could not be ignated by a flame. Thus it is concluded that sorbic acid is a not flammable solid.
