Additional information

The hazard assessment of Tetrahydro-3-methylfuran reveals neither a need to classify the substance as dangerous to the environment, nor is it a PBT or vPvB substance, nor are there any further indications that the substance may be hazardous to the environment. Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare, a chronic test in fish has not been performed. This conclusion is supported by testing of a closely related analog substance, tetrahydrofuran (CAS# 109-99-9), to examine the effects on hatching rate, growth, and survival in early-life stage fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) over 33 days in a flow-through test which yielded a NOEC of 216 mg/L (Call, 1985). Applying a safety factor of 2, as suggested in the justification for read across document, yields a NOEC of 108 mg/L suggesting a low degree of chronic toxicity to freshwater fish.
