Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The partition co-efficient of the organolignite was measured as 3.62.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
3.62
at the temperature of:
17 °C

Additional information

The HPLC, shake flask or slow-stir methods for determining the partition co-efficient were not appropriate for the organolignite because the substance is zwitterionic, surface active and a UVCB. Therefore the partition co-efficient was estimated using the ratio of the individual solubilities in water-saturated octanol versus octanol-saturated water. This resulted in a single value for partition co-efficient being reported, unlike most UVCBs where a range is stated.

The solubility in these solvents was determined in duplicate and was measured using the total organic carbon content in the residue after filtration and concentration to dryness. Heterogeneity is the sample meant that there was some variability in the calculated partition co-efficient, ranging from 3.53 to 3.72.
