Additional information
In ecotoxicity studies hexanoic acid, 3,5,5-trimethyl-, tin (2+)salt (2:1) proved to be readily biodegradable, the lowest obtained acute EC/LC50 value is the 72-h-ErC50 of 94.9 mg/L for algae.
Short-term toxicity to aquatic organisms:
Fish: LC50 (96 h) = > 100 mg/L for Danio rerio (OECD 203)
Invertebrates: EC50 (48h) = > 100 mg/L for Daphnia magna (OECD 202)
Algae and cyanobacteria: ErC50 (0-72 h) = 94.9 mg/L for Desmodesmus subspicatus (OECD 201)
Biodegradation in water: readily biodegradable (OECD 301F) (10-d-w maintained, 87% biodegradation after 28 d)
Bioaccumulation: Based on the log Kow = 2.83 at pH 2.8 and the corresponding log Kow (log D) = 0.65 at pH 7 of the organic dissociation product of the ionic substance, the substance will have a low potential for bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms and a low potential for adsorption to organic matter of soils and sediments at environmental relevant pH values.
Based on the available information, there is no indication of a bioaccumulation potential in organisms and, hence, secondary poisoning is not considered relevant.
Hexanoic acid, 3,5,5-trimethyl-, tin (2+)salt (2:1) is not classified with regard to environmental effects.
Conclusion on classification
Aquatic environment classification
The test substance proved to be readily biodegradable (87% biodegradation after 28 d)
The lowest acute EC/LC50 value in aquatic tests is the EC50=94.9 mg/L for algae.
Due to the fact that the test substance has proven to be readily biodegradable and has a low log Kow (0.65) at pH 7, the substance has not to be classified as dangerous/hazardous to the environment according to Directive 67/548/EEC and according to the Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation)
Lowest reliable EC/LC50 value: 94.9 mg/L
Ready biodegradable: yes
log Kow: <3
Special concern: no
According to 67/548/EEC, Annex 1: not classified
According to CLP regulation 1272/2008 (including 1st-3rd ATP) : Hazardous to the environment: not classified, no hazard statement.
Based on the available data, the substance can not be considered as a PBT substance.
