Description of key information
The solubility of potassium trifluorozincate is 8.2 g/L at neutral pH (pH6) at roomtemperature.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Water solubility:
- 8.2 g/L
- at the temperature of:
- 20 °C
Additional information
The water solubility of potassium trifluorozincate was determined in an in-house non-GLP non-guideline study. Despite some limitations in design and/or reporting, the study is considered adequate for assessment. In this study 4 g/L KZnF3 was weighed into 200 mL water and stirred. The pH was set to 4 or 9 by dropping small amounts of aqueous hydrofluoric acid or potassium hydroxide, pH 6 was the natural value of dissolved species. The suspensions were allowed to stir for two days at room temperature after which they were filtered and the solids dried at 120 °C and re-weighed. Several analyses of the solutions and solids were carried out in order to qualitatively describe parent compound and eventual hydrolysis process occurring in the solutions: i.e. XRD for KZnF3; IC and F-Electrode for fluoride, ICP and Complexometric analysis for Zinc and ICP for Potassium. From this study, the solubility was determined at 8.2 g/L at pH6 and at roomtemperature.
A second series of tests was carried out in order to assess a possible variation of solubility with time. In this test samples of KZnF3 were suspended in de-ionized water (20 g/L) and stirred for 2 h, 4h, 1 day, 2 days and 7 days. Solubility was determined by gravimetric means after filtration. It was found that there is no evident time dependence (up to 7 days) in the dissolution of KZnF3 in de-ionized water at natural (neutral) pH.
