Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
In case of burns: Flush with plenty of water. Continue flushing with water untill medical assistance is obtained.
Eye contact:
Rinse immediately with water at least 15 minutes. Continue rinsing until medical assistance is obtained.
Skin contact:
Remove polluted clothing and wash thoroughly with soap and water. Keep flushing with water untill medical assistance is obtained.
Inhalation:
Place victims in fresh air, rinse nose and mouth with water.
Ingestion:
Rinse the mouth with water and drink plenty of water. Get immediate medical assistance.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media:
The product is not inflammable.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:
When heating caustic steams which are heavier than air are generated.
Advice for fire-fighters:
A respirator and full protective suit is to be used during indoor fire. Wear corrosive resistant clothes.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:
Avoid skin contact with the product. Wear personal protective equipment. Follow descriptions in safety data sheet regarding clean-up from processes with strictly controlled conditions.
Environmental precautions:
All facilities are equiped with dikes and drains with pumpes leading any accidential spill into a tank from where the waste water is reused in the production.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:
Follow precautions as described for strictly controlled conditions. Contain a spill and pump to tank. Any spill to ground, and or into streams or sewage during tansport should be reported to local authorities immediatly.
Do not neutralize with acids, as the product precipitates as a hard and white substance.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling:
Handle only in strictly controlled conditions. Avoid any exposure.
Loading and unloading of substance shall be performed under strictly controlled conditions avoiding any exposure.
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:
Store under strictly controlled conditions. Do not store in containers made of aluminium or their alloys. The substance must not come in contact with water before processing because of risk of precipitation.
Specific end use:
Use only for manufacturing of catalysts under strictly controlled conditions.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Exposure controls:
Handle only under strictly controlled conditions. Only specially trained personel can handle the substance.
Appropriate engineering controls:
Strictly controlled conditions must be applied to any process equpment hereby avoiding any exposure of worker and spill to the environment.
Occupational exposure measurements.
Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment:
Handle only under strictly controlled conditions. Avoid direct contact with the substance.
Eye/face protection:
Handle only under strictly controlled conditions. Protect eyes with approved goggles or face shield. Access to eye wash stations and, if relevant, an emergency shower is required.
Skin protection:
Handle only under strictly controlled conditions. Protect skin with chemical resistant protective gloves, clothes with long sleeves and long legs, protective shoes and if necessary an apron.
Respiratory protection:
Handle only under strictly controlled conditions. When handling generated steam/aerosols, sufficient ventilation is required. If sufficient ventilation is not obtainable, approved respirator with filter type P2 is required.
Thermal hazards:
When heating caustic steams which are heavier than air is generated. A respirator is to be used during indoor fire.
Stability and reactivity
Reactivity:
The substance reacts with acids and forms heat.
Chemical stability:
3 year under normal conditions.
Conditions to avoid:
The substance must not come in contact with water before processing because of risk of precipitation.
Incompatible materials:
The substance reacts with some metals (e.g. aluminium, magnesium, tin, zinc or their alloys).
Hazardous decomposition products: The substance is inorganic. It reacts with water and forms Al(OH)3 and K+. Neither is hazardous.
Disposal considerations
All waste water is pumped to a tank an reused in the production.
The product is to be disposed of according to strictly controlled conditions and therefore it must not be led into the sewer. The product may be returned to the manufacturer if a previous arrangement has been made. Packing (cans and tanks) is to be recycled or incinerated.
