Description of key information

Mecoprop-P 2-ethylhexyl ester (MCPP-P 2-EHE) has a DT50 of 4.34 h and DT90 of 9.99 h in natural water.
Based on the structure similarity between Mecoprop-P 2-ethylhexyl ester and Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester, Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester is expected to hydrolyse rapidly in natural water and is hence unlikely to be persistent.
Therefore, the corresponding hydrolysis product Mecoprop-P acid (MCPP-P acid) is used for further risk assessment of Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester in the environment.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
4.34 h
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Based on read-across with the chemically similar substance Mecoprop-P 2-ethylhexyl ester Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester is expected to hydrolyse rapidly in natural water. Therefore, the hydrolysis product Mecoprop-P acid (MCPP-P acid) was used for further risk assessment of Mecoprop-P n-octyl ester in the environment.

Within 31 days Mecoprop-P acid (MCPP-P acid) showed no degradation due to hydrolysis at 25°C and pH 5, 7 and 9.
