Details on preparation and application of test substrate:
- Method of mixing into soil (if used): According to the results of preliminary test, the test substance was not soluble in water, but was soluble in a acetone. The test substance was added into the test system by the test substance solvent stock solution.
An aliquot solvent solution was separately added to about 10g silica sand and the solvent allowed to evaporate off prior to incorporation into formulated artificial soil with deionized reverse osmosis water. These were mixed by a mixer to give the blank control, solvent control, 10, 100 and 1000 mg/kg respectively with a nominal moisture content of 40-60% by mass of the total water-holding capacity with the deionized water. The test medium preparation process of the blank control group was same as the other groups, but without the solvent and the test substance. The test medium preparation process of the solvent control group was same as the other groups, but without the test substance.

EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED (with observation intervals if applicable) : Mortality after 7 and 14 days

Nominal and measured concentrations:
10, 100 and 1000 mg/kg (range finding)
1000 mg/kg main test
Reference substance (positive control):
yes
Remarks:
chloroacetamide
Duration:
7 d
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
> 1 000 mg/kg soil dw
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mortality
Duration:
14 d
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
> 1 000 mg/kg soil dw
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mortality
Details on results:
- The mortalities in the blank control group and the solvent control group were both 7.5%. Thus, the test fullfills the validity criterion that control mortality should not exceed 10%.
- No adverse behavioural effects were observed at either 7 or 14 days exposure in any of the treatment groups.
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
Expressed as nominal concentration, the median lethal concentration of C 17 Acrylate on Eisenia fetida are as follows:
The 7 day LC50 value was higher than 1000 mg/kg dry soil weight and the 14 day LC50 value was higher than 1000 mg/kg dry soil weight.

Description of key information

The 7-Day LC50and the 14-Day LC50for the test substance to earthworms (Eisenia fetida) based on the nominal test concentrations were both higher than 1000mg/kg dry soil weight.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of the test substance C 17 Acrylate to Eisenia fetida was determined in a 14 days artificial soil test (OECD Guideline, 207 Earthworm, Acute Toxicity Test). Based on the results of range-finding test, one blank control group, one solvent control group and one treatment group which had four replicates of 10 worms per replicate were included in the limit test. The nominal concentration of the treatment group was1000 mg/kg dry artificial soil weight. The number of mortalities were determined after 7 and 14 days exposure. The mortality of the earthworm in the blank control group was 7.5%, in the solvent control group was 7.5%, which were not more than 10 per cent, so the test was valid. Under the tested conditions, the 7-Day LC50 and the 14-Day LC50 for the test substance to earthworms (Eisenia fetida) based on the nominal test concentrations were both higher than 1000 mg/kg dry soil weight.
