Alkyl nitriles are poorly soluble in water and have a low vapour pressure. They readily biodegradable and will behave like normal narcotic substances in the environment. The partitioning to the environmental compartments can therefore be predicted using standard QSAR models like EPIsuite.
For C12 -18 even numbered alkyl nitrile a log Kow of 5.12 was measured which is in good agreement with the calculated log Kow (EPIweb v4.0) of 5.19. The adsorption to organic matter is estimated applying the predominantly hydrophobics QSAR from EUSES and resulted in a Koc of 20000.
