Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- not specified
- Remarks:
- Increase of the cell concentration in the control cultures by a factor of at least 16 within three days was not verified (no data on cell number at test end)
- Conclusions:
- The 72h-EC50 values for the growth rate (r) and biomass (b) determined in this study were 65.3 and 26.1 mg/L, respectively. The NOEC was 6.8 mg/L for both parameters.
- Executive summary:
In a 72-h toxicity study, green algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) were exposed to 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid at nominal concentrations of 0 (control), 2.0, 3.7, 6.8, 13, 23, 43, and 80 mg/L in accordance with OECD Guideline 201 and in compliance with GLP. Reliability grade 1 was assigned. The 72-hour EC50 for the growth rate was 65 mg/L. The 72-hour EC50 for the biomass was 26 mg/L. The NOEC for both parameters was 6.8 mg/L.
