Toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods

Description of key information

No effects were observed to soil macroorganisms (Eisenia sp.) at the highest test concentration of 654 mg/kg for the category member D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, C10-16-alkyl glycosides (CAS: 110615-47-9).

Additional information

One study investigated the effects of the category member (D-Glucopyranose, oligomeric, C10-16-alkyl glycosides; CAS: 110615-47-9) to soil macroorganisms. The test was performed according to the OECD guideline 207 “Earthworm acute toxicity test” with the annelid Eisenia sp. (Steber et al., 1995). An artificial soil was used and concentrations of the test substance up to 654 mg/kg were applied. At test termination after 14 days no effects were observed at least in the highest test concentration of 654 mg/kg. Due to these results the test substance has no adverse effects to the soil macroorganism Eisenia sp. in concentrations up to 654 mg/kg in a short-term test. This result can be seen as a worst case for the other category members hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) and D-Glucopyranose, oligomers, decyl octyl glycosides (CAS: 68515-73-1) because the C10-C16 alkyl polyglucoside was the most toxic substance in the category in tests with aquatic species.

Regarding the biodegradability of the substance it is not likely that the substance persists in the soil for long because it can be described as “ready biodegradable”.
