Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Since no studies investigating the short-term toxicity of isooctadecyl isooctadecanoate (CAS 41669-30-1) to aquatic invertebrates are available, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 a read-across to the structurally related source substance 2-octyldodecyl isooctadecanoate (CAS 93803-87-3) was conducted. The source substance is representative to evaluate the short-term toxicity of isooctadecyl isooctadecanoate to aquatic invertebrates. 2-octyldodecyl isooctadecanoate is characterized by the same fatty acid chain length (isooctadecanoic acid) and a similar branched alcohol component (2-octyldodecanol compared to isohexadecanol/isooctadecanol for the target substance). This read-across is justified in detail in the overall summary (IUCLID Section 6.1) and within the analogue justification in IUCLID Section 13. In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance was used for the assessment. The study with the source substance 2-octyldodecyl isooctadecanoate (CAS 93803-87-3) was conducted according to OECD 202 (GLP) with the water flea Daphnia magna (Bogers, 1998). A Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) of nominal 86 mg/L was prepared and tested under static conditions (limit test). A chemical analysis of the test substance concentrations in the test vessels was not possible since no applicable method could be established due to the very low water solubility to detect test concentrations. No immobilisation was observed after 48 h and therefore an EL50 of > 86 mg/L was derived.

Based on the available result from one structurally related source substance (in accordance to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5) which is characterized by a similar ecotoxicological profile and comparable structure, it can be concluded that isooctadecyl isooctadecanoate will not exhibit short-term effects to aquatic invertebrates up to the limit of water solubility.
