Description of key information

Under the conditions of the present study with Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, no reduction of growth rate or inhibition of yield was recorded at any of the concentrations of CYASORB® UV-2908 Light Stabilizer tested. The EC50 for growth rate reduction (ERC50:0-72h) was beyond the range tested, i.e. exceeded 0.0025 mg/l (corresponds to half of the LOD). The NOEC for growth rate reduction was 0.0025 mg/l.

Additional information

In the present study the toxicity of CYASORB® UV-2908 to aquatic algae was assessed according to OECD guideline No. 201 and GLP principles. Nominal exposure concentrations were the following: 0.1, 1.0, 10 and 100% of the filtrate prepared at 100 mg/l.

At 72 h the NOEC for growth rate reduction was 0.0025 mg/l (corresponds to half of the LOD) and the EC50 was >0.0025 mg/l. For inhibition of yield the exact same values were reported. Due to the very low solubility of CYASORB® UV-2908 Light Stabilizer in water (<10 µg/l), concentration levels that might be toxic for algae could not be reached.

All criteria for acceptability of the test were met according to OECD guideline No. 201.
