Description of key information

Klimisch-1-rated acute oral and acute inhalation toxicity studies study were conducted in the years 1995 and 1996, resp. While the inhalation toxicity study did not lead to a classification, the oral toxicity study resulted in a GHS-classification as "acute oral toxicity category 4" or a DSD-classification as "harmful, Xn; R22".

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
1 500 mg/kg bw

Acute toxicity: via inhalation route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Value:
6 900 mg/m³ air

Acute toxicity: via dermal route

Endpoint conclusion
Value:
mg/kg bw

Additional information

In fact there was only an approximate result of the LD-50 from the acute oral toxicity study. In the study report the result is given as "1000 mg/kg bw < LD-50 < 2000 mg/kg bw/d". Still the whole dose range between 1000 and 2000 mg/kg bw/day would qualify the substance CA 2343 for the same acute oral toxicity classification. For practicability reasons in the field above the value "LD-50 = 1500 mg/kg bw" is given as reslut of the acute oral toxicity study. The acute inhalation toxicity study did not result in classification since LD-50 > 5 g/m3. An acute dermal toxicity study has not been conducted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Only the acute oral toxicity study is relevant for acute toxicity classifcation.

- GHS / CLP: classification as "acute oral toxicity category 4", H302 "harmful if swallowed"; signal word "warning", pictogram "exclamation mark"

- DSD - Annex VI of 67/548/ECC: classification as "harmful, Xn", R22 "harmful if swallowed"; code letter "Xn", pictogram "St. Andrew's cross"
