Main Test

In the preliminary test the test item only burnt locally without propagation for a short period of time. Thus, the perfomance of the main test was not necessary.

Conclusion
The test item DMPSA-K2 could be ignited at room temperature using a flame as ignition source but only burnt locally without propagation for a short period of time.

Results
Self-ignition in the Grewer oven
In the investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer oven the pure test item showed an endothermic effect in the temperature range of 120 °C – 160 °C, which can be assigned to a drying of the test item since it contains 4.45% water. A small exothermic effect was observed starting at a temperature of 270 °C, which led to a maximum temperature of approx. 302 °C (corresponding oven temperature 294 °C). Two further exothermic effects were detected starting at temperatures of 320 °C and 390 °C, which led to maximum temperatures of approx. 389 °C (corresponding oven temperature 359 °C) and approx. 428 °C (corresponding oven temperature 418 °C), respectively. After the measurement, the basket was filled with black-grey residue.

For the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr an endothermic effect was observed in the temperature range of 110 °C – 150 °C, which can also be assigned to a drying of the test item. An exothermic effect was observed starting at a temperature of 270 °C, which led to a maximum temperature of approx. 460 °C (corresponding oven temperature 299 °C). No further thermal were detected up to the maximum test temperature of approx. 418 °C. After the measurement, the basket was filled with a white to grey residue.

Conclusion

The pure test item DMPSA-K2 indicated self-heating at atmospheric pressure starting at a temperature of 270 °C. Due to the high onset temperature in the Grewer oven, it can be assumed that the UN Test N.4 using the 100 mm cube sample at 140 °C is negative.

 

On the basis of this result the tests on the self-ignition in the Grewer oven the test item is classified as follows:

UN Transport Regulation:

The test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance in Class 4 Division 4.2 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11:

The test item does not have to be classified as self-heating substance according to GHS/CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11.

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:
