Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
31 Aug 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
< 2 s

Results
The test item was formed into a particle train. A hot flame from a gas burner with a diameter of about 6 mm is used to ignite the pile at one end. In the preliminary screening test, the substance melts. Short-time appearances of flames were visible, which extinguished within 2 seconds. There was no propagation along the test train.

Conclusion: The test item is not flammable.

Description of key information

Not self-heating.

No flammability on contact with water.

No pyrophoricity.

Not flammable (Preliminary screening test, EU Method A.10)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

The substance is completely molten at 160 °C, therefore it is not self-heating.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

According to the test method A.10, the test item is not flammable.
