'Melting plateaus' were observed for acetonitrile at -44 °C for both duplicate runs, which was slightly lower than the reported MP of -45 °C (Merck, 1976). It was visually observed that approx. half of the CH3CN in the tubes had melted at the plateau temperature of -44 °C. Therefore, melting point results for the Test Substance were corrected for a bias of 1 °C.

`Melting plateaus' were observed for the test item. The inflection points were at approx. -22 °C for both duplicate runs. Therefore, the reported MP of the test item, adjusted for the bias mentioned above, was -23 °C. At this temperature, it was observed that approx. half of the test item in the tubes had melted. Duplicate runs for both the Reference Substance (CH 3CN) and the test item indicated that the experimental error was approx. 1 °C.
