Friction test:

Six negative assays were recorded: no friction sensitivity was noted with the test item with a loading of 360 Newton. No further tests were performed.

Mechanical sensitivity (shock):

Six negative assays were recorded: no shock sensitivity was noted with the test item with a 40 J force. No further tests were performed.

Heat sensitivity (flame):

Three assays using a tube with a hole of 6-mm diameter: in the three assays, an overflowing was observed from ca. 27 s to 2 min 04 s. From 1 min 57 s to 3 min 30 s, a yellow flame of 25 cm height was observed.

Three assays using a tube with a hole of 2-mm diameter: in the three assays, an overflowing was observed from ca. 47 s to 2 min 03 s. From 1 min 32 s to 4 min 49 s, a yellow flame of 25 cm height was observed.

In conclusion: six negative assays were recorded (i.e. no effect on steel tube), no heat sensitivity was noted with the test item.

An experimental study of reliability 1 according to Klimisch, performed in compliance with GLP and according to EU method A.14, was selected as a key study.

The study did not observe explosivity of the test item upon friction, heat, or shock. Although under GHS and CLP, the EU method A.14 is not sufficient for concluding on explosive properties, the conclusion that the substance is not explosive is supported by the fact that it does not contain any structural groups that are indicative of explosive properties and hence, under GHS and CLP, a study according to the relevant UN testing series is not required.

The experimental data (EU method A.14) show that dysprosium trinitrate is not sensitive to friction, shock or heat.
