Description of key information

There is one reliable study available (BASF XXVI/48, 1976) regarding skin and eye irritation. Rabbit skin was exposed to the substance for 1, 5, 15 min and 20 h and observed for 8 days and resulted in erythema and edema scores of 0. The eyes were treated for 1 h and conjunctiva, chemosis and cornea scores could be found that were all fully reversible within the 8 days observation time. Thus, the substance is not irritating to skin and eye.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not irritating)

Additional information

In different tests in rabbit (BASF XXVI/48, 1976) and human (Kaidbey, 1980) the substance was tested for its irritation/corrosion capacity. In skin there were neither edema nor erythema formation or photoallergic reactions to be found. In eye the substance seems to be slightly irritating and corneal opacity can be found that is fully reversibly after 8 days. Therefore the substance can be classified as not irritating.
