Description of key information

Under the conditions of this study no experimental determination of the partition coefficient of the test material was possible due to the surface active properties of the test material. Using predictive fragment constant methodology software, KOWWIN, the partition coefficient of the test material has been estimated to be log10Pow 7.65 to 7.76.

Additional information

The partition coefficient of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 117 and 107 under GLP conditions. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

No determination of the partition coefficient was possible by either OECD Test Method 107 or Method 117. The test material exhibited properties of a surfactant in the octanol-water system, thus preventing the shake flask method. The HPLC estimation method is also invalid for surface active materials.

Determination of partition coefficient was therefore performed using predictive fragment constant methodology using the specialised chemical estimated software (KOWWIN v 1.67). The lack of valid reference data for the test material limited the extent of validation possible for this test material and the values obtained for individual components may not be true values of the partition coefficient. Since all software estimates were within one log unit and in the absence of any systematic errors, the software was considered to be valid for the estimation of the three components present in the test material.

Under the conditions of this study no experimental determination of the partition coefficient of the test material was possible due to the surface active properties of the test material. Using predictive fragment constant methodology software, KOWWIN, the partition coefficient of the test material has been estimated to be log10Pow 7.65 to 7.76.
