The effect of the test item .beta.-Cyclodextrin on the survival and reproduction of Daphnia magna was investigated in a semi-static test over 21 days following the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, No. 211 (2008): “Daphnia magna Reproduction Test” and Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, C.20: “Daphnia magna Reproduction Test”. The nominal concentrations tested were 5.6, 12, 26, 56 and 120 mg/L. Additionally, a control was tested in parallel. The concentrations of the test item measured in the test medium of the nominal test concentration of 120 mg/L were between 97 and 107% of the nominal values. Under the conditions of the test (without food and Daphnia), .beta.-Cyclodextrin was sufficiently stable during the test medium renewal periods of two and three days. Therefore, all reported biological results are related to the nominal concentrations of the test item. The mortality was 0-10 % for the daphnids, the NOEC was ≥ 120 mg/L, the LOEC > 120 mg/L. The test substancehad no toxic effects on survival and reproduction of theDaphnia magnaafter an exposure period of 21 days up to the highest test concentration of 120 mg/L.
