Description of key information

Dowfax 8390 is not readily biodegradable but inherently biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
inherently biodegradable, not fulfilling specific criteria

Additional information

The biodegradability of Dowfax 8390 has been evaluated in various biodegradability screening studies. In Soap and Detergent Association-Semi-Continuous Biodegradability Tests, greater than 90% reduction were achieved in methylene blue active substances (i.e., > 90% primary biodegradation). In a Closed Bottle study (OECD 301D) study, 0 -6% biodegradation was observed. Overall, Dowfax 8390 is not readily biodegradable but inherently biodegradable not fulfilling specific criteria.
