Description of key information

In a 7 day acute toxicity study with Lemna gibba a nominal ErC50 of 1.7913 mg/L and an ErC10 of 0.022 mg/L based on dry weight were determined (BASF 99E0469/14X514, 2016).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater plants:
1.791 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater plants:
0.022 mg/L

Additional information

The growth of Lemna gibba exposed to the test item was investigated in a 7 day semi-static test with daily renewals according to OECD guideline 221. Nine test item concentrations of 20, 4.0, 0.8, 0.16, 0.032, 0.0064, 0.0013, 0.00026, 0.00005 mg/L plus control were used in the test. The test item was not stable under the test conditions. Therefore, the endpoint values were calculated based on nominal concentrations.

At exposure termination no distinctive changes from the normal development of plants in the control were observed at test item concentrations of 0.000051, 0.00026, 0.0013, 0.0064, 0.032 and 0.16 mg/L. At a test item concentration of 0.8 mg/L bending down of colonies, shorter roots and lighter fronds were observed. In the test item concentrations of 4.0 and 20 mg/L bending down of colonies, colored roots, colored edge of fronds, separating of roots and lighter fronds were observed.

After 7 days an ErC50 of 1.7913 mg/L (95% CI: 0.9644 - 3.6230) and ErC10 of 0.022 mg/L (95% CL: 0.0035 - 0.0639) were determined based on dry weight.
