Description of key information

Flammability (dimethoxy(methyl)vinylsilane): highly flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
highly flammable

Additional information

The flammability study is not required for liquids as flammability is assessed on the basis of flash point.

There is no indication on the basis of the structure and experience in handling and use that the substance is pyrophoric (flammable in contact with air) or flammable in contact with water.

Therefore, in accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex XI, there is no need to conduct further flammability testing.

Lower and upper flammability limit values of 1.2% and 25.9% at 100°C were determined for the substance in accordance with ASTM E 681-94 test method. At concentrations in air below 1.2% and above 25.9% the substance is too lean and too rich respectively for the substance to burn. The result is considered to be reliable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is classified as Flammable Liquid Category 2 (H225: Highly flammable liquid and vapour) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. This is on the basis of a flash point of 5°C and a measured boiling point of 103.9°C.
