The substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (log Kow3).  The specific rules for adaptation in column 2 of annex IX of the regulation say that a study for bioaccumulation in aquatic species does not need to be conducted for such substances.

Some information on bioaccumulation is available.  In a 3 day bioconcentration study in fish using radio-labelled ethyl acetate a BCF of 30 was reported.  The same study reported a BCF of 3300 based on the residual concentration in the sludge versus that in the water. It should be noted that the study reported significant degradation to CO2 at the same time.  Again, the same study reported a BCF of 13500 in a 1 day bioconcentration study in algae. Metabolism would not expected to take place during the timescale of the study. This study only measures bioconcentration as a result of distribution of the compound between the algae and water.  Of these, the study in fish is likely to be most representative of the bioaccumulation potential of ethyl acetate in higher life forms whilst the other two studies are not likely to represent the potential for accumulation over the medium to longer term, where biodegradation would become more relevant.
