Results and discussion

Water solubility
Water solubility:
< 1 mg/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
ca. 6
Details on results:
The measured concentrations of nickel, cobalt, chromium, and copper in the water extracts are below the reporting level. The concentration of these analytes in the water extracts is < 2.0 *10E-5g/L. The concentration of the analyte iron in the water extracts is: < 2.7 *10E-5 g/L and the concentration of the analyte manganese in the water extracts is: < 3.2 *10E-5g/L. As the measured concentrations were subjected to fluctuations that are possible for concentrations measured in very low concentration levels near the reporting level (<<10 mg/L), upper concentration limits have been reported instead of average values. It can be concluded, that the test item is insoluble in water (solubility < 1mg/L).

1): After adding the indicated amount of water, the solution was treated with ultrasound for 3 min.

2): After adding the indicated amount of water, the solution was first treated with ultrasound for 5 min and then stirred at room temp. for about 24 h

1): The concentration values in this analysis were subjected to fluctuations that are possible for concentrations measured in very low concentration levels (<<10 mg/l).

The concentration of the analyte iron in the water extracts is: < 2.7 *10-5 g/1.

The concentration of the analyte manganese in the water extracts is: < 3.2 *10-5g/1.

2): As the measured concentrations of nickel, cobalt, chromium, and copper in the water extracts in the experiments A to C are below the reporting level, the concentration of these analytes in the water extracts is: < 2.0 *10 -5g/1.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): insoluble (< 0.1 mg/L)
Diamond is insoluble in water. Therefore the solubility of impurities has been determined. The concentration of iron, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium and copper, dissolved in water extracts of the test item at a temperature of 20 °C, was determined to:
lron: < 2.7 *10E-5 g/l, Manganese: < 3.2 *10E-5 g/l, Nickel: <2.0*10E-5 g/l, Cobalt: < 2.0*10E-5g/l, Chromium: < 2.0*10E-5g/l, Copper: < 2.0*10E-5g/l
In summary, it can be concluded that the test item can be regarded as insoluble in water (solubility > 1 mg/L).
Executive summary:

The objective of the present study was an analysis, if water extracts of the test item Synthetic Diamond Grade 2 (2 micron) Powder contain measureable amounts of iron, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium and copper. For this analysis the method to determine the water solubility cs according to the OECD test guideline No. 105 and the European Commission Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, A.6. has been applied. For the determination of the water solubility the flask method was applied. The concentration of iron, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium and copper in water extracts of the test item was determined using ICP-OES method.

The concentration c. of iron, nickel, cobalt, manganese, chromium and copper, dissolved in water extracts of the test item at a temperature of 20 °C, was determined to be:

lron: < 21 *10-5 g/l

Manganese: < 3.2 *10-5 g/l

Nickel: <2.0*10-5 g/l

Cobalt: < 2.0 *10-5 g/l

Chromium: < 2.0 *10-5 g/l

Copper: < 2.0 *10-5 g/l
