Values are the means from two trials (with 12 runs each). While the standard error of the means (0.024 mPa s at 30 °C and 0.023 mPa s at 50°C) indicates good reproducibility, the general experience with the rheometer indicates that the uncertainty of viscosity values is unlikely to be better than ± 2.5%. This value, which is larger than the standard error of the mean, has been used as the basis for the uncertainty quoted below.

The best estimates for the dynamic viscosity of the test substance are:

at 30 °C: 4.97 ± 0.12 mPa.s

at 50 °C: 3.20 ± 0.08 mPa.s

The best estimates for the kinematic viscosity of the test substance are:

at 30 °C: 6.26 ± 0.15 mm2/s

at 50 °C: 4.10 ± 0.11 mm2/s

The test substance shows Newtonian behaviour, i.e. no significant effect of shear rate.

The measurement was made with a cylinder geometry, which is suitable for low viscosities. The rotational viscometer has been chosen, since it is the only method allowing to easily check if the liquid shows Newtonian behavior (and is in fact the only one allowing to determine the viscosity of non-Newtonian liquids). While the OECD Guideline specifies a general quality criterion for the lower end of the rotational viscometer method of 10 mPa.s, the specific instrument used in the measurements (ThermoHaake RS1 rheometer) has - according to its manufacturer - an applicability range starting at 1 mPa.s. The results obtained in this study are above this value and are therefore considered reliable.
