Additional information

At least one short-term test of each of the three trophic levels (fish, algae and invertebrates) is available on ethylene carbonate.

For algae (Vrijenhoef, 2015) and fish (Ablitt, 2015) an 72-h ErC50 of > 100 mg/L and an 96-h LC50 of > 100 mg/L respectively were determined. No biological effects were seen at the highest concentration tested (i.e. 100 mg/L), For Daphnia magna the study from Mackenzie (1992) resulted in a bound 48 -h LC50 value of 5900 mg/L. Applying a assessment factor of 1000, this results in a PNEC of 5.9 mg/L. As ethylene carbonate did not show any biological effects at a concentration of 100 mg/L, the substance can be considered as not being toxic to algae, fish or daphnia.
