Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The members of this category are gases and will predominantly partition to the atmosphere. This will limit the ability to assess their aquatic toxicity. Due to the difficulty associated with conducting aquatic toxicity tests, experimental data was not available for the members of this category. In the absence of measured data, estimated data was calculated using the QSAR model.

ECOSAR Program v1.00. in EPI Suite v4.00. Calculations were conducted using substances which were considered representative of the category (butane, isobutane, butene, isobutene and 1,3 -butadiene).

The representative substances within this Category showed a short term toxicity to fish of a calculated 96 hour LC50 range of 19-43 mg/L.

The representative substances within this Category showed a short term toxicity to invertebrates of a calculated 48 hour LC50 range of 11-24 mg/L.

The representative substances within this Category showed a short term toxicity to algae of a calculated 96 hour EC50 range of 7.7-11 mg/L.

Additional information

The members of the category, 68955 -28 -2, 8774 -01 -3 and 92045 -23 -3 are listed in Annex I but are not classified for environmental hazards. Additionally constituent substances, butane, isobutene, butene, isobutene are listed in Annex 1 of Directive 67/548/EEC replaced by Table 3.2 in Annex VI to CLP but are not classified for environmental hazards. The major constituent component, 1,3 -butadiene, is also listed in Annex I but is not classified for environmental hazards. The acute toxicity results for substances which are representative of the streams in this category range from 7.7 to 43 mg/L and as the streams are considered not to be persistent, none of the members of the category meet the criteria for classification as environmental hazards under the CLP regulation. This Category would not be classified for environmental hazards.
