The 96 hour LC50 is > 8000 mg/l (nominal methyl polyhydroxymethyl stearate loading rates) equivalent to 17.1 (initial measured concentrations as methyl polyhydroxymethyl stearate equivalents of dissolved test substance), Methyl Polyhydroxymethyl Stearate (Imperial Monomer) to rainbow trouts.

Effect values were based on mean test material concentrations as determined from TOC analyses and the theoretical carbon content of the test substance. No immobility was observed in any of the treatment or control vessels, and the 24- and 48-hours EC50 values were therefore > 16.8 mg/L on a dissolved test substance basis (i.e., WAF), and > 8,000 mg/L on a total test substance basis. The NOEC is thus > 16.8 mg/L on a dissolved test substance basis (i.e., WAF), and > 8,000 mg/L on a total test substance basis to Daphnia.

Based on the results of the study, Methyl Polyhydroxymethyl Stearate has an Average Specific Growth Rate greater than the limit dose of 100 mg/l, when tested in the freshwater green alga, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata.

The effect of Methyl(Polyhydroxymethyl) Stearate on activated sludge microorganisms maintained in an aerobic environment was assessed by the Activated Sludge Respiration Inhibition Test Method (OECD Guideline 209) and the EC50 value is greater than the highest tested dose of 1000 mg/l.
