Additional information

For the determination of the toxicity of the submission substance3,3´-dichlorobenzidine dihydrochloride its corresponding base, 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine, being of equivalent toxicological concern, had been tested in short-term toxicity studies in fish, aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna), aquatic plants (algae, Scenedesmus subspicatus) and microorganisms.

The key study for aquatic invertebrates (reliability category of 1) had been performed on Daphniamagna STRAUS equivalent to OECD 202, fulfilling all the validity criteria of the guideline. The EC50 (immobilization) after 48 hours had been determined to be 2.47 mg/L 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine with a 95% confidence interval of 2.12 - 2.86 mg/L. Another EC50 -value (mortality) for daphnia magna from secondary source (ECOTOX-database) is1.05 mg/L 3,3´-dichlorobenzidine and thus well in accordance with the result of the key study.TheEC0after 48 h as reported in the key study was 1.14 mg/L.
