Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Endpoint to be waived because from the compositional description and the exceedingly low water solubility demonstrated (0.3 mg /l) it can be concluded that Cashew (Anacardium occidentale) Nutshell Extract, Decarboxylated, Distilled (Distilled grade) is not expected to demonstrate adverse effects in an acute test. Therefore, Distilled grade should not require testing to determine its acute toxicity to invertebrates based on the reason for waiving as defined in Column 2 - Specific Rules for Adaptation from Colum 1 of the REACH Regulation (i.e.  the study does not need to be conducted if: there are mitigating factors indicating that aquatic toxicity is unlikely to occur, for instance if the substance is highly insoluble in water or the substance is unlikely to cross biological membranes). This approach is consistent with the absence of short-term effects at the water solubility limit in a study in which the marine invertebrate Acartia tonsa was exposed to Technical grade. A long-term sub-lethal test using the invertebrate Daphnia magna has been conducted which is consistent with Column 2 - Specific Rules for Adaptation from Column 1 of the REACH Regulation for substances that are poorly water soluble (i.e. water solubility <1mg/l).
